Item 1 of 1
The Kerala backwaters are a network of brackish lagoons and canals that run parallel to the Arabian Sea along Kerala's Malabar coast in south-western India. It also comprises interconnected lakes, rivers, and inlets, forming a labyrinthine system of almost 900 km (560 mi) of waterways that has been compared to bayous. The network consists of five huge lakes connected by canals, both man-made and natural, fed by 38 rivers and spanning about half the length of Kerala state.
