The Mahabodhi Temple (roughly, "Great Awakening Temple"), also known as the Mahbodhi Mahvihra, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India, that marks the spot where the Buddha is supposed to have received enlightenment. Bodh Gaya is 15 kilometers from Gaya and 96 kilometers (60 miles) from Patna. The site features a descendent of the Bodhi Tree, under which the Buddha attained enlightenment, and has been a popular Buddhist pilgrimage site for over two thousand years.
